KBS RustSeal is enhanced with the latest technology and offers improved formulation over other rust preventive coatings. It also offers vastly improved UV resistance lasting 3- 4 times longer without fading or chalking. Rust is caused by water (hydrogen & oxygen) coming in contact with metal. If moisture or one of its components, oxygen, can be kept away from metal, the corrosion or oxidation process cannot begin or continue. Ordinary rust paints and coatings try to protect the metal from moisture; most of them fail because moisture attacks relentlessly, softening the painted surface, working its way down to the bare metal. Ordinary paints also chip easily, and when this happens, bare metal is exposed to moisture and corrosion immediately begins.
When you paint KBS RustSeal onto a rusted metal surface, the first thing you notice is the flow of the product and the way it seems to penetrate the metal. What you are seeing is the amazing tenacity of RustSeal and the way it chemically reacts to "grab" onto rusted metal like nothing you have ever seen! And once dry, NOTHING will remove it short of a hammer and chisel. And since RustSeal will not crack or chip, even that method is next to impossible!
RustSeal is different from all other rust products on the market, because it is strengthened and hardened by moisture; ordinary paints and protective coatings are weakened and eventually destroyed by moisture. RustSeal is an ANHYDROUS product (made without water), and is very sensitive to moisture. It dries faster on damp, rainy, humid days; ordinary paints dry faster on dry, sunny days. BUT RUST AND CORROSION DO NOT OCCUR ON DRY, SUNNY DAYS! Rust and corrosion occur when water or moisture comes in contact with unprotected metal. When moisture attacks ordinary paints, the painted surface is weakened and softened, and the moisture eventually gets to the metal underneath. When moisture attacks RustSeal, the coating is strengthened, and its bond with the metal is toughened. In other words, RustSeal has the REVERSE CHEMISTRY of ordinary paints because it is STRENGTHENED rather than WEAKENED by moisture.
Attributes a proper rust-preventative paint should have:
STRENGTH and HARDNESS - to deflect stones, rocks, etc, without chipping off. Where does rust occur on a car? Down along the bottom of the fenders, doors, rocker panels, etc., near the road where stones fl y up and chip the paint. Stones won't chip RustSeal.
FLEXIBILITY - to expand and contract with the weather without peeling off. RustSeal is completely flexible and will not crack or peel.
GREAT ADHESION - to rusted metal to preserve the oxygen barrier that seals the metal from air and moisture, which cause rust. RustSeal adheres to metal (especially rusted metal) like nothing you have ever seen!

Some people think rust is a living substance like cancer. In fact, we have heard people call it cancer. Haven't you? Well, it does continue to eat away at metal as long as moisture is present, but that is a CHEMICAL reaction, not a living organism eating to survive. If you keep moisture away from metal, rust will not and cannot spread! It is that simple. RUSTSEAL SEALS OUT MOISTURE, SO RUST REMAINS INERT.
RustSeal is not a cosmetic product designed for "finish" applications. If left in the sun, it must be top coated because it has some sensitivity to ultra-violet light (any opaque paint will serve effectively as a topcoat). Once it hardens, nothing will take RustSeal off your hands or body except time (but it will not hurt you). Strangely enough, this is a major selling point! People think if it sticks to them, it must really stick to metal. They are right! RustSeal is tough to sand; that is why we do not recommend it for "cosmetic" applications. Special care must be taken when re-sealing the RustSeal can to avoid "welding" it shut. Because RustSeal is sensitive to moisture, extra care must be taken to preserve shelf life. Read the directions carefully. Also, this sensitivity requires some different cleaning and preparation steps.
One final point concerns an intangible, mysterious quality that RustSeal seems to possess. After speaking to literally thousands of customers over the years, we have come to call this quality our "Satisfaction quotient".
